Production Problems It Solves

Usable fines leaving with oversize

Controlled tumbling gives near-size particles repeated opportunities to reach and pass the mesh.

Fragile granules losing their shape

The tumbling path offers an alternative to more aggressive screening motion, with breakage dependent on the product and machine settings.

Where It Fits in Your Plant

Fine mineral grading

Separate dry calcium carbonate, silica flour or similar mineral powders into specified fractions before blending or bagging.

Ingredient classification

Grade sugar crystals, salt or dry seasoning ingredients where particle distribution affects mixing and finished texture. Cohesive deposits require a suitable mesh-cleaning arrangement.

How the Tumbler Screen Works

An eccentric drive produces a combined radial and tangential movement. Particles follow a changing path across the deck instead of moving only in a straight line. Settings influence how long the particles remain available for passage through the mesh. Deck cleaning devices address obstruction of apertures and do not replace control of the feed condition.

Selection Factors

  • Residence time: longer screen contact can help near-size particles pass, but excessive loading still covers the mesh.
  • Fraction sequence: choose each deck opening for the required product split, not simply the maximum number of decks.
  • Cleaning method: ball, brush or ultrasonic arrangements must match the powder and the installed screen design.

Common Issues & Checks

  • Changing separation during a run: inspect screen buildup and feed moisture rather than relying on the initial clean-screen result.
  • Mixed fractions: inspect deck seals and individual outlet connections; changing motion cannot correct a damaged seal.

Frequently asked questions

How does tumbler motion differ from rotary vibration?

A tumbler uses an eccentric mechanism to produce a tumbling path and control residence on the mesh. A rotary vibrating screen uses a vibratory motor with eccentric weights.
