Belt Conveyor

Move sand, aggregate, grain and other bulk solids between loading, processing and storage points with a belt conveyor.

Production Problems It Solves

Repeated loader or manual transfers

A continuous carrying surface connects fixed process points and reduces separate handling steps along that route.

Spillage at equipment handovers

A correctly arranged loading chute, belt support and skirts keep the incoming stream on the carrying surface.

Where It Fits in Your Plant

Aggregate handling

Carry screened sand or crushed stone from a screen outlet to a stockpile, transfer conveyor or storage bin.

Grain receiving

Move wheat, maize or similar grains from intake toward storage or cleaning. Open belts are not sealed powder circuits; fine dust needs appropriate containment at transfers.

How the Belt Conveyor Works

A drive pulley moves the belt while the carrying structure supports the load. Idlers, a return path and a take-up arrangement maintain alignment and tension. Bulk transfer chutes should load the belt in a controlled direction and avoid concentrating impact on an unsupported section.

Selection Factors

  • Loaded section: width, trough shape and belt speed determine volumetric carrying space; bulk density converts volume to mass.
  • Transfer points: direct incoming material along the belt and support the impact zone beneath the loading chute.
  • Incline: material rollback and belt surface affect the usable route; a horizontal duty cannot be copied unchanged onto a slope.

Common Issues & Checks

  • Tracking to one side: inspect off-centre loading, buildup on pulleys and idler alignment after isolation.
  • Carryback and spillage: inspect belt cleaners, skirts and loading-chute alignment rather than adding tension indiscriminately.

Operating Precautions

Isolate the conveyor before inspecting belt cleaners, pulleys or take-up components.

Why Does a Conveyor Belt Slip

A moving drive with an underperforming belt can indicate slip at the drive pulley, but poor throughput may also result from overloading, a blocked discharge or material rollback.

Frequently asked questions

What causes belt carryback?

Material that remains on the carrying surface after discharge travels onto the return run. Cleaner contact, sticky feed and belt condition affect the residue.
